Doug moved to Laurier, my wife’s hometown, after a long successful career as a school administrator. Growing up in southern Manitoba, he lived and worked on the family farm. Upon high school graduation Doug attended Brandon where he earned his B.SC (80), B.ED (83) and eventually a Masters Education in 2001.  After graduating from university in 1983 he began his 32 years teaching career in Northern Manitoba, including the last 23 years in The Pas as a school administrator.

Throughout his career Doug was active in teacher and principal organizations serving on the Council of School Leaders of MTS for numerous years. Doug was also active outside his professional life, coaching, volunteering and serving on various councils and groups including 20 years as a member of the Kinsmen Club of The Pas and 4 years as a volunteer ambulance driver to name a few.

Since retiring and moving in July 2016, he has continued to work part-time as a substitute teacher and assist his relatives with the harvest operating one of the combines.  Doug has also begun to volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross during regional disasters.  Since joining the Sunrise Board of Directors Doug has completed the Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA®) Program.
