Lee Adams

Lee Adams, Director, Member of the Nominations Committee

Term expires: April 2020
Lee graduated from Lennox High School and began to grain farm with his father.  He formed Adams Recreation Products as a winter project but soon found that it took up a lot of his summer time as well.  Lee divested his share of this business to his brother and continued to farm.  After 20 years of farming, he sold the farm and became the parts manager for D B Murray Ltd. Massey Ferguson in Melita.  When D. B. Murray Ltd changed to John Deere, he continued as parts manager.  In 2001, he went into the sales department and sold John Deere farm machinery.  His association with D.B. Murray continued for over 25 years until his retirement in 2007.

During his farming years, he was secretary of the Manitoba Pool Elevators in Melita.  Lee was instrumental in the formation of the Melita Bowling Association and helped build and successfully operate the Melita bowling alley.  He served as a director on the Bowling Association Board for almost 20 years and held various offices.

Lee’s many years of service with the Credit Union System began as a director of the Melita Credit Union. When the Melita Credit Union merged with Virden Credit Union, he became a director of the newly formed Virden Credit Union for a number of terms.  Lee was a director when the Virden Credit Union amalgamated to form Sunrise Credit Union in 2008.   At that time, he became a director of Sunrise and continues to serve on this board.  He has served in the credit union system for over 40 years.  In that time, he has continued to take training courses and has attended many provincial and national conferences to keep up to the ever changing times and regulations.

Lee’s time in the agricultural field as a farm owner coupled with the time spent working in the farm equipment industry as a parts manager and salesman, has given him an excellent understanding of the rural economy and the issues that the agricultural sector are facing.   The years as a business owner have helped him to understand the needs and concerns of the business sector.

Lee enjoys being on the board and it is his hope that when he retires there will be a younger, enthusiastic person to take his place.
