Lon is currently the CEO of the YMCA of Brandon, a position he has held for the past decade. As CEO he has overseen a near tripling of membership, developed a new health and fitness facility and grown preschool and before and after school care to over 700 spaces operating out of 20 locations. As part of the larger Federation of Y Canada, he has served on the National Council and worked with several other YMCA’s in advisory roles.

Prior to assuming leadership at the Y, he has spent 20 years in the education system with the majority of the time as a school administrator in three separate schools in English and French immersion. In addition to school administration, he served as President of the Brandon Teachers’ Association and the Brandon Association of Principals in addition to many Manitoba Education initiatives. He holds a Level I Principal Certificate and a Level II Administrator’s certificate.

In April 2013, he joined the Board of Directors for Sunrise Credit Union as the first new director coming from Brandon area.  He has completed the Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA®) training, the CUES Governance Leadership Institute at the Joesph L. Rotman School of Management, earning a CCUD (Certified Credit Union Director) designation. Additionally, he holds the Accredited Canadian Credit Union Director (ACCUD) through CCUA and Dalhousie University. He strongly believes in continuous learning and improvement with a major focus on leadership and governance as well as mergers and acquisitions.  He has chaired the Governance Committee for a number of years in addition being involved in a number special projects related to the number of mergers contributing to the growth of Sunrise.
In addition to his work with Sunrise Credit Union, he serves on several community boards in leadership roles in Brandon and area including Prairie Mountain Health, Brandon Healthy Families and the Food For Thought Breakfast program.

As a graduate of Brandon University, he has degrees in Science, Education and Administration.
