BRANDON, Manitoba (December 14th, 2016) -  Don Zeghers, Chair of the Board of Directors of Sunrise Credit Union, today announced the appointment of Tim Klassen as the new President and CEO of the organization, effective January 1st, 2017.

The Board of Directors unanimously chose Klassen based on his more than 25 years of experience in the credit union system, as well as the excellent work he accomplished as Executive Vice President and Assistant CEO at Sunrise.

"Mr. Klassen has been serving as Executive Vice President and Assistant CEO at Sunrise since it first formed in October 2008," said Zeghers. "He has all the leadership, knowledge and skills to continue driving Sunrise Credit Union towards a brighter future and we are pleased to announce his appointment."

Prior to the formation of Sunrise Credit Union, Tim was General Manager of Cypress River Credit Union.

“I am very honoured to be selected by the Board,” said Klassen, “and excited by the challenges of exceeding staff and member expectations during a time of changing consumer demands, increasing industry regulation and greater competition. It’s truly a great time to be in the credit union industry”.

Mr. Klassen will succeed Harry Bowler, who will retire after 30 years of outstanding service in the credit union system; 8 of those as President/CEO of Sunrise Credit Union.  While Dec. 31st, 2016 marks Bowler’s last day as President/CEO, he will be staying on as a consultant during this period of transition.

“I am delighted that the Board has chosen Tim as Sunrise Credit Union’s next President and CEO,” said Bowler. “He has been a key leader throughout his years with the organization. Tim has enabled us to grow and introduce new services to help our members succeed.”
