Tour 150 to Visit Three Sunrise Communities

June 29, 2021
Manitoba’s Credit Unions are presenting Tour 150, featuring Nakatamaakewin: Bringing art to you! in partnership with the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) and the Manitoba 150 Host Committee (Manitoba 150).
Tour 150 will travel across the province to communities this summer to celebrate Qaumajuq, the new Inuit art centre at the WAG. The custom, retrofitted tour vehicle will visit Ste. Rose du Lac on Tuesday, July 6, Brandon on Wednesday, July 7, and Treherne on Friday, July 9.
The vehicle is named Nakatamaakewin (na-kah-tah-MAA-kaywin), a Michif name gifted by Language Keeper and Elder Verna Demontigny, meaning “to leave something behind.” It will bring a culturally rich and diverse display of art to the participating communities.
The Tour 150 van is wrapped in the beautiful art of Inuit multidisciplinary visual artist Kailey Sheppard. Sheppard uses their art as a way to connect with and learn about their Inuit culture.
