Agnes received a business diploma and a chiropodist certification in the Netherlands before immigrating to Canada with her husband. Together, they opened and operated a retail store in Shoal Lake until 2018.
In 2005, Agnes became a licensed realtor and has since built a successful career with Century 21 Westman Realty Ltd. Her achievements include being named one of Canada’s top 75 realtors and her induction into the Century 21 Hall of Fame in 2014.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Agnes has been deeply involved in her community. Agnes served as a deacon for the Shoal Lake Baptist Church from 2008 to 2020. She has also supported many outreach and volunteer programs and sat on the Strathclair Credit Union Board for 15 years. Agnes brings integrity, enthusiasm and a positive attitude to all aspects of her life.

With a passion for rural development, volunteerism, and community leadership, Carissa has dedicated her career and volunteer service to supporting organizations focused on the growth and sustainability of rural communities.
Carissa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agroecology from the University of Manitoba and a Rural Development Diploma from Assiniboine College. She has over 20 years of experience in rural community economic development, entrepreneurship, and small business support.
She is the owner of Flourish Leadership Development, a consulting business specializing in leadership development, community engagement, and capacity building services for non-profit organizations. In 2022, Carissa received the Business Person of the Year Award from the Parkland Chamber of Commerce and was nominated for the Economic Developers Association of Manitoba’s Award of Distinction. Carissa lives in Dauphin with her family, where they own and operate a small grain farm.

As a business owner, real estate agent, and former educator, Carol brings a combination of practical financial experience, community-focused leadership and a commitment to lifelong learning. Having run her own business for many years, she offers firsthand insight into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs. She knows that being a business owner requires many financial skills, such as budgeting, measuring risk, and long-term planning.
Carol’s background in education has further enhanced her ability to listen, ask questions and analyze information. She has been on the Sunrise Credit Union Board since 2023 and has pursued extensive training during this time to deepen her knowledge and enhance her governance skills.

Craig offers extensive experience in education, governance, and community leadership. He spent 33 years as a teacher and was actively involved with the Manitoba Teachers’ Society, including sitting on the Manitoba Teachers’ Society Provincial Executive.
He previously served as a director of Tiger Hills Credit Union for 15 years, and as Reeve of the RM of South Norfolk and the amalgamated Municipality of Norfolk Treherne for eight years.
Craig has chaired or co-chaired the Boyne Valley Water Initiative for over 20 years, and is also Chair of South Norfolk-Treherne Non-Profit Housing Inc. He also sits on the MNT Community Development Corporation Board and volunteers actively in his community. Craig brings a strong commitment to learning, having completed many credit union related courses and continuing his education to better serve in his role on the board.

Darcy, along with his wife and son, operates their century-old family farm. With a practical, common-sense approach and strong critical thinking skills, he brings a grounded perspective on business and governance.
Previously, Darcy has worked in the Credit Union system for ten years, providing him with a solid understanding of financial services. As both a former employee and a member, he is a strong advocate of the co-operative model and is committed to contributing to the growth and continued success of Sunrise Credit Union.

David has nearly three decades of leadership experience in business ownership, project management, and customer service. He successfully owned and operated a construction company for over 30 years, working closely with clients, suppliers, and employees to deliver complex projects efficiently and collaboratively.
David joined the Sunrise Credit Union Board in 2025 and is dedicated to contributing his experience and practical leadership to the organization’s continued success.

Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree, a Bachelor of Education degree and later completed a Master of Education from Brandon University. He had a 32-year career in education as a teacher and school administrator.
Throughout his career, Doug was actively involved with teacher and principal organizations at both the local and provincial levels. Doug served as a director for numerous years on the Council of School Leaders of the Manitoba Teacher Society and its predecessor, the Manitoba Association of Principals. After a long, successful career working in Northern Manitoba, Doug and his wife, Valerie, moved back to her hometown of Laurier in 2016.
Doug previously served on the legacy Prairie Mountain Credit Union board and remains actively involved in the community as a volunteer and treasurer for the local Senior Centre. He joined the Sunrise Credit Union board in 2019 and remains committed to ongoing professional development by completing courses that support his effectiveness as a board member. Doug is committed to serving the region with integrity, honesty, and a strong sense of community.

Gordon has extensive experience in financial management, municipal administration, and community leadership. He was heavily involved in advocating for a credit union to expand to Baldur after the community’s only financial institution closed, gaining valuable insight into the credit union system and rural financial access.
He holds a Business Administration degree from Red River College and began working as an accountant for a large public utility in Winnipeg, where they managed over $30 Million in transactions per month. He later worked for a rural municipality in Manitoba, where he earned a diploma in Municipal Administration before becoming the chief administrative officer, a position he held for 20 years. Gordon was then head-hunted by a Toronto firm to spearhead their financial operations, where they expanded from three to nine businesses during his tenure.
After returning to rural Manitoba, Gordon worked as a financial officer for a not-for-profit organization supporting vulnerable individuals and later became a licensed life insurance advisor. Raised on a mixed farm, he remains actively involved in local sports and community organizations.

Kendra brings a distinctive blend of business experience, community values, and a commitment to service. As a business owner and mother, she understands the financial needs of families, entrepreneurs, and everyday members in her community. Kendra has built and managed a business from the ground up, which has taught her how to make smart decisions, solve problems, and plan for long-term success.

He previously worked as a Development Officer for the Southwest Planning District, where he supported several municipalities in local development, guided residents and businesses through regulatory processes, and collaborated closely with municipal councils. This experience strengthened his understanding of rural economic development, governance, and the diverse needs of the communities that Sunrise Credit Union serves.
Michael is the owner and operator of Melita Therapy Centre, where he has worked as an Athletic Therapist for the past eight years. Running a small business has provided him with practical insight into the financial realities faced by entrepreneurs, families, and local organizations. He values transparency, integrity, and responsible stewardship, and brings experience in reviewing complex information, making balanced decisions, and communicating effectively with stakeholders. He is eager to contribute his expertise to help Sunrise Credit Union continue its member-driven growth.

Scott Thompson operates a grain and forage seed production farm with his father on their family farm west of Minnedosa. He began farming full-time in 2009 after completing his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy at the University of Manitoba. Scott furthered his education at the University of Manitoba by completing additional courses focusing on finance and accounting.
Scott served on the Minnedosa Credit Union board for six years, including as Vice Chair in the final year before its amalgamation with Sunrise Credit Union. Since joining the Sunrise Credit Union Board, Scott has completed a number of courses and certifications to further strengthen his governance skills.
Scott and his wife built their home on the family farm, where they are raising their two daughters. The Thompson family is actively involved in their local community.

Steve holds an Accounting Diploma from Assiniboine College and a Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Lethbridge. As an entrepreneur, he brings years of experience in innovation, leadership, and financial management. In 2010, Steve founded Dirty T-Shirt Productions, a video production and marketing company serving clients across North America. He and his wife also co-founded Langston Lane Ltd., a real estate investment company that is dedicated to revitalizing communities throughout western Manitoba.
The Langston family and a group of dedicated community members established SCORE Store Inc., a non-profit thrift shop in Erickson, MB, in 2020. The SCORE Store has been a beacon of positive change, driving over one million dollars of investment in the region and fostering numerous social benefits.
Steve lives in Onanole with his family and proudly serves his community as a Municipal Councillor in Harrison Park. He has also sat on Dauphin’s Countryfest Board of Directors. He strongly believes that rural Manitoba offers abundant business opportunities and an impressive quality of life. Steve is a proud member of the Sunrise Board, inspired by its meaningful impact on the communities it serves.
Meet the Board
Sunrise Credit Union’s Board of Directors are elected by the members in a democratic one-member, one-vote system for a three-year term, up to a maximum of four consecutive terms. In addition to attending regular board meetings, each Director serves on a committee that assists the Board in its governance.
